Cain and Abel

This I Would like to break down a little more by scripture. I have two brothers and this story was often thrown at my brothers and I. As a young child I thought it very unfair and very wrong of God. As my research expanded over the years I realized that this story mimics many of the other brother slaying brother stories throughout mythologies and religions.

Let’s start with Genesis 4:3-5 from the King James Version “3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

Personally I would be very “wroth” too. If we look back a little bit we see that Abel was the keeper of the sheep and Cain a tiller of the ground. To me one task is not more important then the other. They both require a certain level of skill and are essential for survival. Yet God favors the slaughter of animals over the birth of fruits from His Earth. Why? It never explains why. I guess the God of the bible is just very very blood thirsty.

Now Cain slays Abel and we skip ahead a bit.

This part I have always found interesting God says to Cain “12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.” Her strength. Refering to the Earth as female seems very “paganistic” to me.

Here are some scripture that as a child just blew my mind. Then in my teen and very earlier adult years frustrated me. I’ll paste them then explain “4Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.”

1. How can anyone slay Cain when Adam and Eve were the first and were created by God. All churches teach you that mankind descended from these two. So where did these other people come from? If they killed him then they would be just as guilty of brother slaying as he was because supposedly Adam and Eve were the first.

2. Same thing but with his wife. How can he have a wife if his parents are the heads of the human race? If that was so then his wife should be his sister and that would be some serious incest going on there.

A question about those that never had a chance.

“If nonbelievers are going to hell what happened to all the Native Americans that died before Christianity ever made it to this part of the world?’

The answers could be broken down into two basic types.

1.       They were sent to hell

2.       They will be given a chance upon judgment day.

They were sent to hell. If this is the case then the Christian “God” is a cruel god.  It would be no different then this analogy.  A young man father’s a child when he is in high school.  The mother dies in child birth and the young man can not be bothered by the raising of the child so puts it up for adoption.  The child is adopted and raised in a loving family but never told it was adopted.  The child grows into adulthood and one day an old man approaches the now adult child on the street.  The old man declares to the now grown child that it is the child’s father.  The father then breaks the adult child’s knees and back so that the rest of its natural life it has to suffer.  Why did he do this?  Because the child never took the time to seek him out.  Is that right?  No it is not and in our modern society that man would be punished for his deeds.  So why would a loving Creator send people that never had the chance to know of it to eternal torment?

They will be given a chance upon judgment day. This would nullify the most important moment of the bible, the crucifixion of Jesus.  Was he not crucified to save our eternal souls from damnation in Hell and only belief in him will give us ever lasting life?  If people are given a chance to decide if they believe upon judgment day then his sacrifice was in vain.  His suffering was for nothing.  Imagine this: All these people that never had a chance are lined up one by one.  God is standing there and he says to the first one in line “You were a good kind man.  You did many great things but you were never given a chance.  I am giving you your chance now.  I must ask you do you believe in him?”  Then God points to Jesus.  What would you say at that point?  Is that not an absurd idea?  So again why have your only son crucified if you will be giving some people a choice in the matter?  If goodness and belief are your standards why not wait until judgment day and give all the good people a chance to decide if they believe in a man standing in front of them?
