Yesterday one of my coworkers asked me to explain Deism to them. So I did. It’s a simple idea deism is the belief in a creator using reason not a religious text. Then she asked me if I had always been a deist. So I explained to her that I use to be a Christian and after 14 years of religious study I found that religious groups were all inaccurate and false. Then she asked me to explain how they were inaccurate. I tried to circumnavigate the question because she is a sweet naive woman that is very happy in her beliefs in Christianity but she insisted.
I pulled out several packets of documentation that I carry and started explaining them to her. You could see it on her face that this was disturbing her. Then she said something that bothered me. She said “That’s why you are not suppose to question it.”
What? If it wasn’t for questioning things where would we be as humans? So I explained to her that if the bible is truly the word of god then it should answer ALL questions and she be historically and scientifically accurate. This caused her to shut down futher and she gave me back everything.
This is yet another key problem I have with religion. They fall back on “you must have faith” or “it’s the will of god” or “do not question.” These are all things that force complecancy.
Do not question. Let’s think about that. Do not question. That’s a brainwashing tactic. That’s suppression of free will. Does not the bible say we are all given free will?
